  8.   With LocateV3 you can not only find it FAAAAAST you can run it,
  9.   view it, listen to it, display it and edit it!

  18.   Why another file search program?
  19.  
  20.     Actually Locate is NOT another search program but a front end for
  21.     FIND and UPDATEDB an excellent CLI only search and database duo
  22.     written by Larry Phillips.
  23.  
  24.     With two hard hard drives and 9 partitions it 'was' a royal pain
  25.     to search through each and every partion one at a time for a file
  26.     I had misplaced.  Not to mention that searching all the dirs and
  27.     subdirs took what seemed like an eternity!

  29.   Installing LocateV3.1
  30.  
  31.     Simply unarc the file and place the programs in their respective
  32.     directories. C: files in C: etc.  You may place Locate in any
  33.     Dir you choose.
  34.  
  35.     IMPORTANT- You will need to create a directory named FindDB and
  36.     assign FindDB: to it.  I suggest you add a line similar to the
  37.     following to your user-startup.

  39.     ASSIGN FindDB: work:FindDB
  40.  
  41.     LocateV3.1 DOES require CanDo.Library to run properly.

  43.     IF you are updating from 2.0 keep the following in mind and
  44.     respond accordingly:

  46.     Beginning with LocateV3.1 ALL databases should have a unique name.
  47.     The name MUST NOT be find.codes!  ALL databases MUST be in your
  48.     FindDB: assigned volume.

  50.   Getting Started
  51.  
  52.     BEFORE running Locate you should edit the first line of locate.prefs
  53.     For example:

  55.     dh0: dh1: dh2: dh3: etc. etc.
  56.  
  57.     NOTE each volume must be seperated by a space.
  58.  
  59.     When first run Locate will ask you to select a database to work with.
  60.     If this is the first time you are running Locate, click past this, leaving
  61.     the file name blank.  A new database will be created using the 'default
  62.     path' you specified in the first line of the locate.prefs file.
  63.     After your first database is created you may change the default
  64.     path from within Locate, using the Preferences option.

  66.     NOTE: be prepared for a wait. Udating the DataBase can take from 10-20
  67.     minutes depending on the number of volumes you include, their size and the
  68.     number of directories and files included on/in the volume/partion.

  70.     Once the database is created, save it with a descriptive name. The database
  71.     MUST be saved to the FindDB: assigned volume.
  72.  
  73.     You now have the FASTEST file/dir search utility I have seen on the Amiga!
  74.     And what's more there will be NO NEED TO ENTER A PATH TO SEARCH!!!

  76.     To find a file or directory once the database is complete type in
  77.     the pattern and click on the LOCATE button you will have an
  78.     entire listing of all Directories and Files that contain any or
  79.     all of your specified search pattern within 5 seconds!

  81.   KNOWN BUGS
  82.  
  83.     I have had some reports of LOCATE removing the Workbench Pattern when
  84.     exiting (ONLY with older model Amiga's and/or OS chips prior to 2.0)
  85.     I have found NO reason for this bug and have no intention of buying an
  86.     A500 to check it out.

  100.     NEWICONS patch installed they will show up as single pixels on
